What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

Single of the week this week goes to the rather excellent Declining Winter Remixes CD on Mobeer Records which is a new offshoot of the Moteer label. It comes packaged in a beer mat style sleeve which obviously shows fondness for booze (something we all know and love). On the CD are 5 reworkings of one of the Declining Winter songs from the last single. Also included is a password so you can download the other 5 mixes which came with the limited version of the 7" on that little 3" CD single thing. Pastoral and clicky are the 2 words that spring to mind here. On offer we have 5 beautiful remixes by Aus, El Fog, The Boats, Part Timer and Thendof which are all very acoustic sounding melodic electronica. It's all very atmospheric and lush and it's defo one for all you Hood fans. The Aus mix is stunning with tinkly pianos over the original guitar line. I'll tell you what it is... it's haunting... if anything were ever haunting it would be this. Am sat here with the wife and she reckons it's relaxing so top approval from 'er indoors. Check out Theendof mix..... it's great! Oh and don't forget those other 5 mixes you can download by Bracken, Epic 45, Northstation, Remote Viewer and The Winter himself. Another cracking release from that Hood lad!

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
