What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Brain damagedmouse feeling happy.

Normally I would leave something by Mark Pritchard to Ant who has a terrifyingly encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music, so extensive he had to get some extra shelves fitted in his head to hold all the factoids. Mingus says this 'EP1' by Harmonic 313 on Warp sounds like an electro version of Flying Lotus, who i'm unacquainted with. All I know is the former Jedi Knight & Global Communicator has a real grower on his hands here. A minimal, hypnotic electroid throb down the sidewalks of Detroit, utilizing the classic learning device "Speak & Math", a numerate relative of "speak & spell" You can tell this is produced by a purist legend rather than some over zealous new kid on the block (hello Clark...). His sparse use of gentle acidic burbles & the slightly stumbling, amiable and crisp funk of proceedings make for some engaging listening. Mingus is definately feeling the hip hop on this plate. Flip over for the wonderful Pritchard take on Dubstep, definately a man taking full advantage of his knowledge, taking this usually heavy duty genre into the realms of time & space. He creates a slo-tempo cheeky, grooving roller with it's head in a bubble cruising on a moon buggy. The last track is 'phat' according to Mingus. Like Prefuse 73 having his face bitten off by Luke Vibert. Ltd to 2000 vinyls only so be shitty quick.
