What we say

Rating: sad This record left our BRIAN D feeling sad.

I actually like it when I get summat I loathe these days & it's usually aimed at the trendy mullets with those "caught-in-a-gel-lined-rhombus-shaped-helmet" hair cu(n)ts & twatty drainpipes. My friend says the only difference between the culture kids these days is the type of footwear they sport & the music they consume. Apart from that they're interchangable. This DJ Sega & DJ Blaqstarr 12" is for bastards. Complete & utter bastards with no taste whatsoever that adore hideous ghetto-booty shaking muzak remixes saturated with highly edited vocal loops (pointlessness abounds) & all manner of general tedium & deck rinsing "action" The press release says this :- "DJ Sega is a 20 year old walking encyclopedia of club music. He holds down the biggest all-ages rollerink parties in Philadelphia, playing strictly his own productions and remixes- he's got like.... 200 plus tracks in the tank!" Ant says thus :- "What??? A 20 year old who's an encyclopedia of dance music & all he can do is shit remixes of Smack my Bitch Up? Am i missing something?" Mingus says "he got the technology but no ideas" I'm currently speechless at how dreadful this latest Hollertronix (#8) installment is. Absolute gash.

What the label says:

-first Hollertronix record on Mad Decent
-this series has an extremely strong following and sales record
-features remixes by DJ Blaqstarr & up and comer DJ Sega
-left field club remixes of tracks like Thunderstruck, Smack My Bitch Up,
Dig and more
The mighty Hollertronix series rolls on with a yet another new direction.
Following the popularity of "rockstar" type remixes on the Philly and
Baltimore club scenes, we get 5 tracks from young gun producer
DJ Sega and Mad Decent staple DJ Blaqstarr. (For more on this
phenomenon, see DJ Sega's current Rockstars vs Clubheadz CD).
DJ Sega is a 20 year old walking encyclopedia of club music. He holds
down the biggest all-ages rollerink parties in Philadelphia, playing
strictly his own productions and remixes- he's got like 200 plus tracks
in the tank! The 5 tracks here are part of the cannon that makes the
young kids get buck (search youtube for "jamz late night"). DJ Blaqstarr
you should already know, and he drops a remix of "Smack My Bitch Up,"
one of his signature crowd crushers. You aren't gonna hear tracks
like these anywhere else.

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
