What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Brian feeling unmoved.

Yes. I have a single after all that. and guess what? It's a bit shit. Relatively anyway. Yila ft. Scroobius Pip have released a kinda electro Kid Acne style job called 'Astronaut' with a digitally twisted kids voice warbling "astronaut" on the chorus. The rapping terrible, really pedestrian sub-Skinner dross (perhaps this is the whole point..?) In fact this whole record is the bleating's of some goon who really needs to grow up. After Gescom pointlessly re-jigging Kid acne, Clark has a go at this, providing some quality beats over the novelty English rapping. Now, Acne actually has some real integrity. This indie-hop silliness on Rob Da Bank's Sunday Best imprint i'd have liked when i was 12. Go figure......

What the label says:

One half of stars-of-2007 duo, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, releases a new side project in his inimitable style, intricately blending spoken word with electro beats, mixed by hotly-tipped new producer Yila.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
