Rating: ecstatic This record left Warren feeling ecstatic.

This record is the perfect mix of the future of indie pop! i like the mix of indie/rock with the more modern synth sounds. Really does it for me having just managed to get a copy before it's release!!! :) i'd go as far as to say that the b-side is (despite being less catchy and poppy) more fun to listen to.

Can't wait to see what they do next

synth or no synth
it's synth all the way for me
why you ask?
because that is what the band are looking for as simple as that.
we all may have our opinion but this is the sound the boys are looking for.
the aim is for people to be as happy listening to this at a live gig.
as they would dancing in a night cub.

I Have to Disagree with "Phil" from the site, I feel the synths are what really make these songs work, especially on the B-Side Michael debacle, they are just Genius. It makes me angry when i see people reviewing music when they blatantly don't know what their talking about, The synth sells this single and if thats what they set out to do then they have succeeded and just because you might not particularly like it yourself that does not in anyway way make it shit. I think this is one band to be watched in the future, I heard the first single taxi when it was originally being played on radio 1 by steve Lamacq and think they have the potential to go far. I wish the best of luck to The Author and hope that ignorant people like this don't hinder their chances of success.

What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.

Here's The Author which is this weeks release on Weekender records. It's called Dannie and it might be OK if someone hadn't smothered it to death with a load of shit synth noises. The obsession with synths has to stop soon indie bands as you're making your records sound gash. Cos this isn't really a bad tune at all.... I just got angry there....

What the label says:

Hailing from Jersey in the Channel IslandsThe Author are a group of dedicated individuals with huge ambition making swirling electric psychedelic pop music.   With ‘Dannie’ the band are set to capitalize on the good press and radio they received for their download only single Taxi.
This single, their first physical release, features tracks that show their more direct dance floor fillers and their willingness to embrace and experiment with all tools at their disposal. The b-side’s strength makes an argument for this to be labeled a double A side release.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
