What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Ant feeling ecstatic.

Rephlex have put out a smashing Bochum Welt 2CD set which collects his early long out of print 12"s for the label together with new stuff. 'ROB (Robotic Operating Buddy)' is an incredible 31 tracks in all ranging from classic early Braindance to current dirty electro sounds. Gianluigi Di Costanzo is a wicked producer, his melodies are great and his drums are always good value. He writes lush electro pop too, the whole shebang. He's bee fairly quiet recently so this is a welcome set of tracks. Mingus is comparing the opening cut 'Flag' to Gescom... Proper crunchy gear. For fans of Ambient Works 1 era Aphex, Drexciya in its various incarnations, Skanfrom, early Human League etc. A great mix of home listening gear and more futuristic dancfloor gubbins. Recommended.

What the label says:

Gianluigi Di Costanzo, aka Bochum Welt’s fascination for technology and video games is evident in his work with Thomas Dolby’s California based Beatnik and Headspace Inc, companies which have completed productions for the Universal Studios, Steven Spielberg, David Bowie and many more.
Bochum Welt joined the Rephlex Australian and European tour as an opening act of The Aphex Twin.
The new album "Robotic Operating Buddy"is a 2 x CD release (& follows last year’s Dopplereffekt Remix Promo 10" Vinyl). Disc 1 features new tracks and mixes, while Disc 2 collects his rare Rephlex back catalogue, all in glorious Wav file quality (that will save you a lot of time and money collecting on ebay!).
One might speculate that influences such as Kraftwerk, The Human League and similar 80’s & 90’s synth pop are at partly at work within this album, placing Bochum Welt alongside peers such as Autechre, Modeselector, Ulrich Schnauss etc

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
