YES! Been listening to the Ruffians since before their first EP on XL. The album is sure to be AMAZING, and this single already is. I think the song Kurt Vonnegut might be on the b-side along with the almost-better-than-original Grizzly Bear cover! I love this band, and I love that they got picked up by Warp. It would be brilliant if they toured the UK sometime this year! For fans of Animal Collective, but also preppy stuff like Vampire Weekend.

What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.

Warp have signed Born Ruffians which is a weird one. I've not really got a handle of this debut 7" for the label (3rd UK release though!) yet despite me hearing it a few times. Violent Femmes crossed with Vampire Weekend I get..... and maybe something like the Minutemen. The press release says Strokes, Pavement and Pixies.... on the strength of this single I can't hear anything by those bands in their at all. Whoever wrote that is a numpty.... 'Hummingbird' is 7" only!

What the label says:

Infectious Canadian indie, this is the Born Ruffians debut single, backed with great TV, radio and online exposure.
An infectious slice of indie punk drawing comparisons to The Strokes, Pixies and Pavement.   Limited vinyl (500 copies) backed with a cover of ‘Knife’, Grizzly Bear’s modern classic.   Accompanied by a great video, serviced to all major music channels.  6Music session already confirmed.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'it's well slicing man.'
