What the label says:

Duels are core members Jim (guitars, keys) and Jon Foulger (vocals, guitars, keys), Jon Maher (bass) and James Kirkbright (drums). Additional members include Katherine Botterill (keys) and, making her debut on new album ‘The Barbarians Move In’, Lesley Turner (violin). Duels‘ style is dramatic, sometimes avant-garde, new-wave pop with sinister undercurrents that creates a unique and vibrant sound.
They have toured the UK with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Graham Coxon, The Cribs, The Rakes and Forward, Russia. In addition to a performance on Channel 4’s ‘The Album Chart Show’, they opened the Main Stage at T In The Park 2006, along with triumphant performances at V and Reading and Leeds Festivals‘ Radio 1/NME stages. Debut album ‘The Bright Lights And What I Should Have Learned’, produced by James Ford (Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys), was released in 2006 to widespread critical acclaim.
‘The Barbarians Move In’ will be released on April 28th 2008 through This Is Fake DIY Records. Produced, engineered and mixed by the band themselves in their own hideaway on the windswept North Sea coast, their second album marks a great leap forward for the band. A much more muscular sound, with an at times disturbing vision, makes for an intense and coherent experience.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'music...... it all sounds the same time to me.'
