Hot on the heels of their January single release Disco Dancer, the insatiable Parka will be releasing their third single, Better Anyway, on 21st April. The third track to be taken from their debut album Attack of the Hundred Yard Hardman (produced by Iain Gore – Rumblestrips, Kid Harpoon, Blood Red Shoes), Better Anyway is a perfect example of what is being touted in the press as Parka’s own brand of ‘skindie’ mixing ska and indie to create the distinguishable sound behind this fast-paced anthem.
January was a heady month for the Parka camp; Disco Dancer made Alex Zane’s Record of the Week on his Xfm Breakfast Show, and while the video was played on Q TV the track was hailed by the press as a “100mph punk workout”. Disco Dancer was playlisted on all four Xfm stations around the country and Matt’s forward roll while playing guitar went down in Winter Wonderland folk-lore when the band were invited to play a set at the Scottish event in December.  The single was reviewed extensively in national and regional publications including The Sun and Music Week, it received strong support from the Scottish media and this enthusiasm looks set to continue in the run up to the release of Better Anyway and the album with features confirmed in Scotland on Sunday and The Daily Record. The band will also record a session for John Kennedy this week to be broadcast closer to release.
Hailing from Scotland but now based in London, Parka have toured with the likes of Foals, Boy Kill Boy, The Young Knives and played with The Twang and Stereophonics at XFM’s Winter Wonderland amassing a legion of supporters along the way. High profile fans include Zane Lowe, and Xfm Scotland’s Jim Gellatly as well as the people at Urban Outfitters who invited Parka to play their Glasgow store after their triumphant King Tut’s homecoming show in January. Needless to say the store was rammed with stylish Parka fans.
