What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.

Well I wanted one so I just had to be the man to review it! It's a lovely slab o' wax on Tectonic by Peverelist, an odd name indeed. This shady mate of Shackleton is from Bristol and all I can say is 'Junktion' from his Tectonic debut is sweet as a nut hypnotic dub techno with real soul. A retro space effect sample is delayed & echoed throughout whilst the pacey, itchy stepping beat takes you on a beautiful ride before a woomphing bass line kicks in & joins the journey. It's like the souls of two astral travellers, one meek, one noisy, are gliding hyper speed in a space buggy through a breathtaking jungle of electroid dub. Or something. This is a smart ass tune & you'll know it when you hear it. The flip is worth a note too. 'infinity is Now' sounds like another fresh slice of absorbing future dubstep. This has more stargazing synths, proper Model 500 shit, with a brooding, bassbin worrying bassline & the beautiful feel of graceful ambient techno, really spiritual, dubby 5AM gear, like a classic 'Snivilisation' era Orbital tune brought bang up to date for the Dubstep massive. A huge green field at dawn in the gaze of a slowly blossoming sunrise is what i'm thinking, with my eyes closed. Then i wake up & realise it's still Winter, but only just. Two sides on the best tectonic plate yet. 12" y'all.

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
