What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Onto Tubelord. Great name for a band.... with their debut (I think?) single on Big Scary Monsters. From the second it starts the it's just bursting to get out of your speakers. I've not heard a more energetic enthusiastic sounding record for a while. It reminded me of when I first heard 'Caught By The Fuzz' by Supergrass. It's caught somewhere in between Placebo and Foals with a melodic sounding Built To Spill style chorus. One of the better indie sevens we've heard in a while! 'Feed Me A Box of Words' is it's filthy name.

What the label says:

Tubelord head out on their first proper UK tour this week including four dates over in Ireland and the BSM St Patrick's Day Party in London on Monday. The band are featured in the new issue of Rock Sound, have a lovely little mention coming in NME tomorrow and been enjoying some nice airplay from Xfm. Oh and Subba-Cultcha have just reviewed the debut single and said "it’s been a while since a UK post-hardcore band offered so many ideas in such a short amount of time!". Members of We Are Scientists, Mystery Jets, Hadouken, The Subways and other indie-street-cred-cool bands have been spotted rocking out at recent London shows and I'm going to take myself off of the fence and say that they're going to be a very important band over the next 12 or so months.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
