What we say
This record left our Ant feeling happy.
We've all really enjoyed The Chap 'Fun & Interesting' single. This really does what it says on the tin. Simply great pop music that's genuinely unique and highly infectious. It's kind of grand and theatrical with cool lyrics. The length of this review wont do this justice so I just say it's one to just check out for yourself and if you're not entertained then there is clearly something wrong with you. Runner up single of the week.
What the label says:
“The Chap give birth to freakish Dadaist disco babies – you’ll love it!” NME “It’s cool and dry, and it’s all over the place as well. It’s sonically unpredictable and harmonically lopsided, yet almost infuriatingly catchy. It’s unprefractured and jerky, but smoothly enticing at the same time. It’s cerebral dictable fractured and detached in its methodology but visceral in its impact. Most of all, its fantastic fun. Serious fun.” The Wire “The Chap are both gear and fab!” John Peel RIP The Chap, the already-legendary, pan- European, London-based, modern pop group, are back with the single “Fun and Interesting”, taken from their forthcoming third album, Mega Breakfast. The Chap have become known and loved for their inimitable pop – improv - disco – rock – with – strings sound, captured in some crunchy, untruly “out there” home production and a furiously rocking live show, prove truly complete with dance routines and scary faces. “Fun and Interesting” is the sound of the search for a heart of gold in the form of a corporate motivational song. A husky singer documents the surreal quest for love of a certain “detective” over a lush arrangement. It’s also completely sick. In all the best ways. The B-side, “Brace Brace”, groves with Shakespeare and features a lot of guitar soloing compressed into a few seconds. A slightly more down-beat, absurdist funk epic, this is the perfect counterpart to “Fun and Interesting”, resulting in what is surely one of the most idiosyncratic, memorable and, yes, both fun and interesting pop singles of 2008. Wait until you hear the album…
