Adem then. Lordy me. I seemed to remember quite liking the odd song by him when he was a whippersnapper. Now he's got to that point in his career when he either can't string an album of his own songs together or he's throwing together an album of 'live favourites'. As he has released a covers album featuring 12 songs of largely good songs played in the most inoffensive yet annoying way. See I think he's quite a talented chap, he can write and arrange music, he can sing and he's a bit 'musically interesting'. There's something about him though that winds me up.... I can cope with supremely talented people but I don't think he's supremely talented. By the time the cover of "Oh My Lover' by PJ Harvey came in I was shouting 'stop it' at the stereo. It didn't stop though and I heard the whole damned thing featuring covers by Bedhead, Deus, Pinback, Aphex Twin (he covers Girl/ Boy), Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, Breeders, Low and more. Adem’s ‘Takes’ is a stunning and evocative collection of Adem’s interpretations of tracks that were released in the decade from 1991 - 2001, music that inspired and informed Adem while he was growing up. Twelve tracks ranging from covers of Bjork, Smashing Pumpkins and Yo La Tengo through to Tortoise and Aphex Twin, which will appeal to a matching variety of audience.
The album will be available on CD, digital and deluxe heavyweight double vinyl. Press activity has been great, with a double page feature in the NME and big feature in The Sunday Times, with reviews from music monthlies such as Q, Mojo, Uncut and Plan B. NME online will also feature footage of Adem performing dEUS’ ‘Hotellounge’ which was filmed recently in his flat. Plus, Pitchfork will have exclusive online footage of Adem’s cover of Low’s ‘Laser Beam’. The track has also been played across stations such as 6 Music (Marc Riley, The Freakzone) and Radio 1 (Rory McConnell). Adem will be playing a string of UK dates including ATP Festival and a headline performance at the breathtaking Union Chapel in London.
