What we say
Jerusalem and the Starbaskets have a tic-tac coloured split 7" with Hush Arbors thru GPS this week and that first side totally floors me. 'I Cannot Radiato Without You' has that whole slightly fucked 60's garage rock vibe, rudimentary subway busker percussion & minimal velvets guitars that explode into JAMC/Spacemen 3 rattling distortion. You know, THAT sound where the amp's broke and no-one gives a hot diggity damn cos it sounds so wild? The lyrics are tremendous, soulful & inspiring, like he's serenading a cute gal from the other side of a murky dancefloor, and with each impassioned gaze, he thrashes his guitar a little harder. It's one of those blinding little tunes that frustrates you it's so bloody short. But at least the exercise gained from each visit to the turntable is worth it! Hush Arbors are a more country-ish affair that really remind me of later period Byrds. Chiming rickenbacker-y geetar flecks combine with a hot trucking hazy lyric & foot tapping percussion whilst a violin seesaws through proceedings. Wish the other side lasted as long as 'Mr Bones' but hey, they're both great in their own way. Check the competition on the home page or HERE What the label says:a mighty 45 pairing longtime Missouri friends Jerusalem and the Starbaskets and Hush Arbors. |
